From Quaker Settlement to Modern Suburb

Originally settled by Quakers in 1672, the area now known as Evesham Township has a rich history dating back more than three centuries. Officially established in 1688, the township was named after Evesham, England. The Village of Marlton, established in 1758, derived its name from "marl," a natural fertilizer that was mined in the area beginning in 1806\. This mining activity sparked the first "building boom" in the 1830s and 1840s. Throughout its history, Evesham Township has evolved from a rural farming community to the thriving suburban center it is today, with a current population of approximately 47,000 residents.
